This lesson is part 2 of 5 lessons that cover the entire content of learning Aim A.

This lesson focuses on getting students to calibrate a balance to then prepare a primary standard solution. Students will then calibrate a pipette for use in titrations in the next lesson

Layout of the lesson
•Review of which parts of the scientific reports will be worked on in this lesson and the content expected in these area
•Students create a risk assessment for the titration section of the practical using Hazcards or internet research. Students will see and discuss a poor example of a risk assessment
•What is the difference between repeatable and reproducible experiments linked to the importance of writing reproducible methods with reminders of what content should be included to make it reproducible
•Method and animation on how to calibrate scales with a results table and questions for students to complete and make notes on that can then be used in their report
•Method and animation on how to prepare a primary standard solution of sodium carbonate with questions for students to complete and make notes on that can then be used in their report
•What are different types of pipettes and what are they used for
•Why do we use pipettes instead of measuring cylinders to get accurate measurements
•Method and animation on how to calibrate a bulb pipette with a results table and questions for students to complete and make notes on that can then be used in their report
•Checklist of everything students can complete in their report from this lesson - can be set to be complete outside of lesson
