A golden thread of a local town - map lesson

This resource is a lesson plan designed to create a golden thread of a local town. The lesson plan is aimed at Year 5 children and provides a recap of prior knowledge focusing on the basics of a map. The lesson provides children with the oppertunity to research their local area to discover landmarks they might like to include in their map of their local area. It then allows children to explore scaling as they use their artistic skills to draw these landmarks, with appropriate sizing, onto their map. Displaying a ‘Golden Thread’ of their local area, highlighting the key areas surrounding.
