A number of unfamiliar organic molecules ( as well as sulfuric acid and a transition metal complex) are presented and the teacher encourages student to ‘say something intelligent’ about the structure. Functional groups, RFM, IR, nmr, acidity/bacicity, what types of reactions it is expected to undergo, mechanisms for those reactions, fragments that could by synthesised etc etc. The idea is to build as many topics into the molecule as possible and stretch links between topics.

Complete waste of money. It is a great idea for revision but the resource itself consists of a set of pictures of skeletal structures for a number of compounds. That is it! No suggestions for what pupils might include or any kind of answer guide, so it has to be teacher led - for which this resource is not required to provide images.

I really enjoyed this resource and my students said it helped them to feel much more confident when approaching the synoptic paper. These would make a great starter (1 molecule per lesson) and self differentiate really well, with weaker students identifying solubility or functional groups and stronger students determining if C or H NMR would be more appropriate to identify etc
