A-Level - Exercise Physiology NEW & OLD specification

PowerPoint - Card Sort - Practical demonstrations - T&L - Revision - Differentiated

This is a large resource that breaks down a complex topic into the following areas:
* ATPase - breakdown of ATP
* ATP/PCsystem
* Lactic Acid system
* Aerobic system

This resource can be used in various ways by changing the way it is printed and presented to students:

* T&L practical for first teaching of the system(s) - print the resource on A4/photocopy onto coloured card (red=energy/pink=enzymes/green=fuel and so on) laminate, hole punch and tie string long enough so students can wear them around their neck or simply hold each card depending on class. Each student then becomes one or more parts of the system and performances various tasks.
This can be made more visual and memorable by holding a complex energy source glycogen such as spaghetti, then the person wearing the enzyme card glycogen phosphorylaze physically chops it in half breaking it down into glucose and the system continues. Photo example of this activity in pack.

* Revision tasks - Print the cards 4 per page/landscape and cut (if you have the resources to do so photocopy each pack a different colour and laminate (see photo). Students then:
- students are given the system individually so sort into the correct order
- students are given all the cards to categorise
- students sort each system into order
- teacher/student remove some cards and students find which is missing - differentiated by the number removed.

* Revision - who am i? students use the cards to play the who am I game, asking questing to figure out what card they have.

* Revision - students create a large table on the floor creating their own headings then students place each card into it's correct place - example of headings; enzymes, number of ATP, fuel, waste products and so forth.
