Here is a great activity to help your students, clients, and patients understand social pragmatic skills. This great inferencing speech or ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis) activity will help children, teens, and/or adults realize that their actions and words have an impact on how their communicative partners, family, peers, and others respond to them. Choice of 2 answer for one scene question. May also be used by speech therapists when addressing pragmatic language skills.
Even though we all should be aware of those with neurodiverse behavioral patterns it is only realistic to teach these individuals to also adapt to their surroundings in this ever-changing world and to minimize confrontations so that everyone gets along. We should also teach children to self-advocate for themselves and know both sides of a story that it is to everyone’s benefit to also see the other person’s point of view and that sometimes words can hurt all parties regardless of someone’s behavior or personality differences.
This activity will benefit everyone and bring to our attention that it is acceptable to just “be nice” and get along well with those who may not always see the other person’s point of view. The variety of scenarios may also be helpful for discussions and experiences that the student or client may have encountered or seen in the past or present.
This activity is helpful for professionals such as Speech-Language Pathologists (Speech Language Therapists), ABA Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Teachers, and Home School Learners.
Thank you for all you do for your students and clients!
