Absent from Thee by John Wilmot, a one hour lesson designed for KS5 students preparing for AQA Love Through The Ages (Paper 1, Spec A 7712) or for unseen poetry exam questions for any of the exam boards like Eduqas, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC. The lesson explores language and structure,in particular how the speaker uses religious imagery to satirise 17th century ideas about fidelity and faithfulness in love and relationships.
Additionally, we look at how this poem is satirical in tone, the same as a number of poems from the anthology. Comparison skills are essential for Section C of Paper 1. We look at how these poems use logical syllogisms to rationalise their absurd logic and arguments.
Designed for the A-level spec, it includes discussion questions and topics for students, as well as a range of activities.
