  • READY TO TEACH (LESSON 3/8 - DESERTS).

This lesson requires the use of the blue AQA Oxford textbook.

Pupils must decide which five items they would take with them to a desert, justifying the reasons for their choices. Ask pupils to feedback their ideas to the class, pupils must gauge how long they could survive in a desert based upon their choices. Discuss the meaning of the term: Adaptation. Outline the section of the syllabus taught during today’s lesson (slide 3). Discuss ways in which camels have successfully managed to adapt to the extreme desert environment. Pupils are required to add labels to their diagram (slide 5), showing camel adaptation. Describe and explain to the class successful plant adaptations (slides 7-9). Pupils are required to use the information displayed on slide 10 of the powerpoint to design a plant that will survive in a hot desert environment. An extension task, of GCSE questions, are available for pupils who finish the plant adaptation task before time allowance. As a homework task, pupils complete the GCSE question, based on today’s learning.
