This worksheet task allows students to develop their understanding of algebraic expressions and substitution.

Students will act as world tour managers for their favourite artist or band and create base expressions for 8 different scenarios.

For example, you sell tour t-shirts for £50 each, but the venue takes a flat fee of £100 to let you set up the table. Students would create the base expression (50t + 100) before using substitution to answer follow up questions, such as ‘you sold 10 t-shirts’.

This activity also comes with 2 additional challenges to provoke higher order reasoning and develop mathematical thinking.

Note: there are 2 versions of the task, in Pound Sterling (£) and US Dollars ($), to use as you prefer.

This download provides both the Editable PPT Version and the PDF Version.
