Teach pupils to calculate and reason with interior and exterior angles using this editable, 64-slide Year 8 maths PowerPoint. The lesson connects triangulation, angle sums and regular polygon properties, then develops reverse problems and explanations.

Designed for print-free teaching: pupils record calculations, angle sizes and reasons in exercise books or on mini-whiteboards.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?
• One editable PowerPoint containing 64 slides.
• Six retrieval questions with grouped answers.
• Six prerequisite questions with grouped answers.
• Visual vocabulary for polygons, vertices, diagonals, convex shapes, equiangular shapes and regular polygons.
• Polygon names from three to ten sides.
• Teaching examples for interior angle sums and regular polygon angles.
• Worked reverse examples finding the number of sides from an interior angle or an interior angle sum.
• Six matched I Do/We Do examples with worked answers.
• Twenty AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer slide.
• Twenty-four practice questions with answers.
• Eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions, plus a two-part Super Challenge, on one page.
• Answers for all differentiated tasks and the challenge.

MODELLING AND GUIDED PRACTICE
The lesson shows how diagonals split a polygon into triangles, leading to the interior angle sum formula. Pupils connect an interior angle with its adjacent exterior angle and use the 360-degree exterior angle total. The six modelling examples form three matched pairs: (1) with (4), (2) with (5), and (3) with (6). These cover missing angles, regular polygon interior angles and finding side counts from exterior angles.

PRACTICE AND PROGRESSION
The main practice page has three sets of eight questions. Pupils find missing angles in a shared pentagon, calculate both interior and exterior angles for regular polygons, and work backwards to find the number of sides.

Developing uses fresh questions. Secure introduces equal unknown angles, algebra, angle comparisons and reverse calculations. Greater Depth asks pupils to test whether proposed polygons are possible, challenge claims about hexagons, justify a maximum side count and explain what happens to interior angles when the number of sides doubles.

SUPER CHALLENGE
Two regular polygons have interior angles that differ by 15 degrees, and one has twice as many sides as the other. Pupils determine both side counts. They then remove the doubling condition and give a different pair to show that the angle difference alone does not determine a unique answer. Worked solutions explain the reasoning.

CLASSROOM PRESENTATION
Editable diagrams, clear angle labels and compact headings support projection. Diagram pages state that figures are not drawn to scale. A divider separates the Super Challenge from the other differentiated tasks while keeping all four levels together.

Choose Developing, Secure or Greater Depth tasks for the class. Super Challenge questions extend reasoning within the topic. The presentations are editable. Keep questions with their matching answers when adapting the lesson for a particular class. The bundles overlap: lessons also occur in the relevant subject collection and complete Year 8 collection. Check the list before buying twice. Use the presentations in sequence or select a lesson for targeted KS3 revision. Allow pupils time to explain their methods and check their answers. Print free means worksheets are not required; pupils may need exercise books, squared paper or geometry equipment for particular tasks. These are original Beyond Printables teaching resources; they are not official Sparx products or access to the Sparx platform. The lesson files are separate PowerPoints, so a teacher can locate and reopen a single topic without working through the whole bundle. Teachers can pause on a modelled example, invite a pupil explanation, then reveal and discuss the worked answer before continuing. The guided examples support this classroom routine. The independent questions are intended for written working, not just a final answer. Pupils can compare a calculation, diagram or explanation with the displayed answer and correct it. A teacher can start a lesson with retrieval, use the checks on mini-whiteboards and direct pupils to practice suited to their current understanding. The presentation can be revisited later. Answers are included.

For a revision lesson, select a short run of examples and practice rather than presenting every slide. For first teaching, allow more time for discussion and checking misconceptions. Where a question asks for reasoning, encourage pupils to state why the method applies. Comparing two plausible approaches can expose an error before pupils move to a new example. Editable slides make it possible to adapt a number or context for a class. Recheck the corresponding worked answer whenever a question is changed. Answers are included.
