Build confidence with interior and exterior angles through structured modelling, repeated practice and connected reasoning. This editable 92-slide Year 9 maths PowerPoint includes 72 practice questions and a one-page differentiated task built around one detailed diagram. Designed for print-free teaching: project the diagrams while pupils work in exercise books or respond on mini whiteboards.
I DO, WE DO, YOU DO
Three matched I Do / We Do pairs cover interior-angle sums, individual interior and exterior angles in regular polygons, and finding the number of sides from an exterior angle. A six-question overview provides space for teacher working, followed by enlarged questions and worked solutions.
Five further examples explore reverse calculations from an interior angle, missing angles in irregular polygons and identifying interior and exterior angles.
72 PRACTICE QUESTIONS
Four compact practice pages provide:
• 24 regular-polygon questions: calculate the interior-angle sum and each interior and exterior angle.
• 24 reverse questions: find the number of sides from an interior-angle sum, an exterior angle or an interior angle.
• 12 missing-angle questions using one shared hexagon diagram and a table of given angles.
• 12 algebra and reasoning questions involving equal angles, sequences, ratios, impossible polygons and changing the number of sides.
Answers are included throughout.
ONE DIAGRAM, A WHOLE DIFFERENTIATED TASK
A single-page task combines a regular hexagon, a square and an equilateral triangle, with diagonals creating further triangles. All 20 questions and the Super Challenge refer to this connected figure.
Six Developing questions offer an accessible start: count sides, identify angle sums and find a square angle. Six Secure questions use familiar shape properties to calculate angles. Eight Greater Depth questions extend to linked calculations, proving a triangle is equilateral and investigating gaps when attached polygons change.
The Super Challenge asks pupils to identify all possible regular polygons satisfying angle and gap conditions, then justify that their list is complete. Worked answers and a complete challenge solution support discussion and checking.
CHECK UNDERSTANDING THROUGHOUT
• Six retrieval and six prerequisite questions, with grouped answers.
• Twenty individual AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer, suitable for mini whiteboards.
• Three exit checks with answers.
• Editable teaching slides, labelled diagrams, activities and worked solutions.
