Teach angles on parallel lines with this editable, 60-slide Year 8 maths PowerPoint. Pupils identify corresponding, alternate interior and co-interior angles, calculate missing angles and explain the facts that justify their answers.
Designed for print-free teaching: pupils write angle sizes, calculations and explanations in exercise books or on mini-whiteboards. Shared diagrams remove the need for printed worksheets or copied figures.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
• One editable PowerPoint containing 60 slides.
• Six retrieval questions with grouped answers.
• Six prerequisite questions with grouped answers.
• Illustrated vocabulary and three separate diagrams showing the main parallel-line relationships.
• Worked teaching examples combining angle facts and forming an equation.
• Six matched I Do/We Do examples with worked answers.
• Twenty AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer slide.
• Twenty-four angle practice questions with answers and reasons.
• Eight Developing, eight Secure and five Greater Depth questions, plus a two-part Super Challenge, on one page.
• Answers for all differentiated tasks and the challenge.
MODELLING AND GUIDED PRACTICE
The six examples form three matched pairs: (1) with (4), (2) with (5), and (3) with (6). Rotated diagrams help pupils recognise the relationships in different orientations. Further examples connect corresponding angles with angles on a straight line and use co-interior angles to form and solve an equation.
PRACTICE AND PROGRESSION
The main practice page uses one large figure with eight labelled angles. Each of the 24 questions gives a named angle and asks pupils to find another, for example, “a = 42°. Find e.” Questions vary the given angle and the requested angle, covering corresponding, alternate interior, co-interior and vertically opposite relationships before combining facts. Answers include the angle size and a reason.
Developing provides fresh values using the same clear question style. Secure introduces ratios, algebraic expressions, related unknowns and changes in angle size. Greater Depth asks pupils to test whether lines can be parallel, challenge incorrect claims, explain the equal co-interior case and justify why rotation preserves angle relationships.
SUPER CHALLENGE
Three of the eight angles total 240°. Pupils find every possible acute angle and explain why their list is complete. They then consider a total of 300° and decide whether the possible acute angles change. The solution considers all four combinations of acute and obtuse angles and uses supplementary angles to connect the cases.
CLASSROOM PRESENTATION
Editable diagrams use clear labels, angle arcs and matching arrows for parallel lines. Diagram pages state that figures are not drawn to scale. Compact headings preserve space for questions, and a divider clearly separates the Super Challenge from the other tasks.
Suitable for Year 8, KS3 consolidation, tutoring and revision. Topic reference: M606.

Choose Developing, Secure or Greater Depth tasks for the class. Super Challenge questions extend reasoning within the topic. The presentations are editable. Keep questions with their matching answers when adapting the lesson for a particular class. The bundles overlap: lessons also occur in the relevant subject collection and complete Year 8 collection. Check the list before buying twice. Use the presentations in sequence or select a lesson for targeted KS3 revision. Allow pupils time to explain their methods and check their answers. Print free means worksheets are not required; pupils may need exercise books, squared paper or geometry equipment for particular tasks. These are original Beyond Printables teaching resources; they are not official Sparx products or access to the Sparx platform. The lesson files are separate PowerPoints, so a teacher can locate and reopen a single topic without working through the whole bundle. Teachers can pause on a modelled example, invite a pupil explanation, then reveal and discuss the worked answer before continuing. The guided examples support this classroom routine. The independent questions are intended for written working, not just a final answer. Pupils can compare a calculation, diagram or explanation with the displayed answer and correct it. A teacher can start a lesson with retrieval, use the checks on mini-whiteboards and direct pupils to practice suited to their current understanding. The presentation can be revisited later. Answers are included.

For a revision lesson, select a short run of examples and practice rather than presenting every slide. For first teaching, allow more time for discussion and checking misconceptions. Where a question asks for reasoning, encourage pupils to state why the method applies. Comparing two plausible approaches can expose an error before pupils move to a new example. Editable slides make it possible to adapt a number or context for a class. Recheck the corresponding worked answer whenever a question is changed. Answers are included.
