This focused 60-minute lesson moves them beyond feature spotting and into the reasoning that strengthens Paper 2 Question 5: a clear claim, an explained reason, a specific example and a meaningful impact.
Using an original screen-free-afternoon speech task, the 10-slide PowerPoint guides a mixed-attainment Year 10 or Year 11 class through audience, purpose and form, argument chains, fair counterarguments and direct rebuttals. Original text-free images are used as discussion and planning stimuli rather than decoration, helping students generate points before they write.
Two linked editable Word worksheets support the full sequence. The first develops arguments through visual inference, guided reasoning and paired oral rehearsal.
