Both powerpoints are designed to cover all the main teachings, key words, sub-topics and typical exam questions relating to AQA 9-1 Religious Studies Spec A. The word document is designed to accompany the ppt slides. This is intended to provide a ‘safety net’ for all students but particularly those who may be struggling and just want to be clear on what the main learning actually involves. It is assumed that these activities are ‘cemented’ by other activities, especially useful diverges to enhance interest and learning. For euthanasia I have attempted to find interesting real life examples such as Tony Bland and Diane Pretty with the intention that students begin to engage with the feelings of how crucial the issue is to their future lives and the lives of others. There are extension tasks that could also work as homework task to ensure content is covered if there isn’t time for a separate lesson. Homework is also provided to examine the case of Terry Pratchett and how he considered the merits of euthanasia but went on to achieve more with his life and die naturally. The latter is a really good example of a real case example of how decisions about euthanasia could lead to unforeseen and tragic consequences. There are extension tasks that could also work as homework task to ensure content is covered if there isn’t time for a separate lesson. Specifically for abortion homework is also provided for comparing Christian teachings and examining the case of Savita Halappanavar.
