AQA A Level lesson on percentage yield through the theoretical mass, including a liquid reactant measured by volume and density. Slides, sheets, answers.

Lesson 11 of a 23-lesson sequence on amount of substance. Cycle 1 finds the theoretical mass, then the yield. Cycle 2 works with a liquid limiting reactant measured by volume, through its density. A misconception probe targets yield calculated as product mass over reactant mass.

Two teaching cycles, each with a worked example, a gap-fill, a hinge question, a completion problem, whiteboards and a timed independent task.

What’s included: a teacher PowerPoint with answers revealed on click and full speaker notes (timings, what to look for, what each wrong answer means); a pupil PowerPoint with the answers removed, ready to print; a worksheet, a support sheet, extra practice and full worked answers as editable Word documents.

Specification: AQA AS and A Level Chemistry 7404/7405, 3.1.2 Amount of substance.
