
This lesson covers AQA Trilogy Chemistry specification 4.7.2.4 Carboxylic acids as part of 4.7.2 Reactions of alkenes and alcohols (chemistry only).
Students will:
- Recognise carboxylic acids as weak acids and (HT only) explain why they are weak acids in terms of partial ionisation and pH
- Identify carboxylic acids from their names and formulae and recognise the –COOH functional group
- Describe what happens when carboxylic acids, react with carbonates, dissolve in water and react with alcohols to form esters
