Earthquake Case Studies – Japan (2011) and Nepal (2015) – AQA GCSE Geography
This detailed and engaging lesson compares the primary and secondary effects, as well as the immediate and long-term responses, to two contrasting earthquakes: the 2011 Japan earthquake (HIC) and the 2015 Nepal earthquake (LIC). Students complete a matching activity to distinguish between types of impacts and responses before applying their knowledge through diagrams, videos, and structured comparison tasks. The lesson concludes with an exam-style question and writing frame. The PowerPoint follows a clear structure but can be easily changed to suit teachers’ needs, whether for differentiation, revision, or deeper analysis of case study content.
