The lesson is designed around a possible Exam Question for the pre-Release Material.

Starter - Odd One Out. Students can guess the odd one out between the three pictures and give a reason why. Link this to the topic of the pre-release.

Main activity Mystery - Students to decide why Mary is campaigning at Abington. Range of reasons for and against the building of Abington Reservoir (All information adapted from the pre-release material). Learning check included in the activity and then students answer the main question. Students to feedback what they have found and then can decide themselves if they reservoir should be built.

AFL - Students are given a question which could be asked in the pre-release.
Exam Question: Do you think that the proposed reservoir at Abingdon should go ahead? (9 + 3 SPAG)
Justify your answer.
Tick the box of your choice Yes No
Use evidence from the resource booklet and your own knowledge to explain your decision.

Students use an example answer and mark it out of 9, including SPAG. (Example answer modeled on examples from the exam board). Students then answer the question themselves using all the information from the mystery and the example answer.
Extension could include the peer assessment of the exam question.

Plenary - Students to come up with a possible solutions to the problems that have been found at Abington. Example is give so students can model this.
