Build spoken Arabic sentences about animals with Sentence Ladder: a printable picture-card and ladder-board game for beginner language learners.
Included- 28-page Animals Pack PDF, with How to Play instructions, teacher guidance, 80 picture cards (20 per colour), printable card backs, game board, card mat and four reference sheets.
- Separate 2-page A3 board PDF for a larger playing surface.
- Cards use Arabic and pictures; reference sheets give card numbers, Arabic, transliteration and English. No English translations are printed on the word cards.
Practise animals vocabulary, meaningful sentence construction, verb forms, questions, descriptions and linking expressions. Learners choose suitable forms and say their sentences aloud. Reference sheets can be checked after drawing, supporting beginners and adults who do not speak the language.
Four coloursPurple: pronouns, demonstratives, question words and people. Red: nouns, places and starred describing words. Green: verbs with forms to choose from. Yellow: prepositions, connectors and other useful expressions. Colour coding supports play without requiring grammatical terminology.
How to playDraw four cards, one of each colour. Build and say a meaningful sentence using at least two cards. Correct sentences using two, three or four-plus cards earn one, two or three spaces respectively. A correctly used starred red card earns one extra space. Count cards, not individual words.
If unable to make a sentence, draw four more cards, one of each colour, and try with eight. If still stuck, pass without moving. Discard drawn cards into colour-matched piles after the turn. Shuffle and reuse a discard pile when its draw pile runs out.
Land at the bottom of a ladder to climb it. Challenge squares ask for an extra language task, such as forming a question or changing a pronoun: success earns two extra spaces; otherwise stay. Nobody moves backwards. Reach or pass square 40 to win.
Language supportPlayers may add the Arabic definite article to a suitable noun without an extra card if grammatically correct. Follow the updated How to Play sheet: the minimum stays at two cards throughout; extra level-up and dialogue symbols on some boards are not used in this standard version.
Preparation and usePrint and cut the cards. For card fronts and backs, print double-sided at 100%, flipping on the long edge. Print the board and reference sheets single-sided. Designed for A4 and US Letter; a separate A3 board is included. Supply playing pieces. Use for supported small-group speaking, vocabulary revision, tutoring or home learning. Check sentence accuracy with a teacher or competent speaker. Digital PDF download; no physical items.
