Help pupils move from spotting a common difference to using an nth-term rule with confidence. This editable Year 10 Maths Foundation PowerPoint combines teacher modelling, mini-whiteboard checks and substantial independent practice. Project the lesson and keep the whole class working in exercise books without photocopied worksheets.

BUILD UNDERSTANDING STEP BY STEP
Pupils find rules for increasing and decreasing arithmetic sequences, calculate later terms and decide whether a particular value occurs. Examples include negative terms, decimal and fractional differences, constant sequences and finding a rule from separated terms.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
• One editable 69-slide PowerPoint with questions and answers.
• Six retrieval questions and six prerequisite checks, each with grouped answers.
• Key vocabulary with examples of terms, positions and common differences.
• A compact I Do / We Do page with three matched pairs and space for live teacher working.
• Paired modelling solutions and additional explanations of separated terms and fractional differences.
• Twenty individual AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer.
• A 36-question practice page organised into finding rules, calculating terms and checking whether values occur.
• One-page answers for the full practice set.
• Twenty-two differentiated questions across Developing, Secure and Greater Depth, plus one Super Challenge on the same slide.
• One-page differentiated answers and a separate worked Super Challenge explanation.
• Two dedicated misconception checks with corrections.
• An original seven-mark exam-style question with worked answers.
• Three exit questions, each followed by its answer.

PRACTICE WITH PURPOSE
Controlled changes help pupils notice how the first term and common difference affect a rule. Later questions require them to interpret their calculations: a position of zero, a negative position or a non-integer cannot identify a term when positions start at one. The differentiated tasks extend into finding unknown rules, locating the last positive term and comparing sequences at the same position.

A CHALLENGE THAT REWARDS REASONING
The Super Challenge asks pupils to challenge a claim about two sequences and find a rule for their common terms. The worked explanation links the common differences to multiples and shows why the rule captures every shared value, rather than relying on a long list of calculations.

PRINT FREE AND READY TO TEACH
Short AFL questions suit mini whiteboards. All differentiated levels remain visible together, so groups can work independently from one screen.

Edit the slides to suit your class, select a practice route or revisit a misconception. Questions and suggested exam marks are original teaching materials, not an official examination paper.
