We teach AS/A2 at my school. In light of online teaching and a desire to develop students mastery, retained learning and independent learning, we decided to come up with a system of H/W that could either be:

-Ran parallel to the teaching of the content
-Or, ran non linear e.g. whilst I am teaching Component 2, Sec A I may be setting ‘Tide’ H/W to develop spiral learning etc.

THE PREMISE-Each sheet is based on a three-part H/W- Revisit, Embed and Prepare task with the latter being a task that prepares the student for the next part in the unit, consolidating the unit or for a new one. The students encouraged to build up their REP with the examiner and you as the teacher. As a disclaimer, our students unlock rewards for the amount of REP points they earn. How you wish to do this/ what to reward is a decision for your consideration.

WHAT EACH H/W is made up of a combination of: Readings tasks, viewing tasks (complete with links), note taking tasks, modeling tasks based on exemplar work written by myself etc. Whilst the documents can be printed off and written on, they work best digitally with students expected to bring them printed when they are due.

Each sheet also includes our patented RAIL/CHEP colour coding system as well as the:

-Year group in question
-Sheet number (Great for folder organization)
-Set date/ due date
-Departmental marketing codes and responsive marking sheet to ensure student response whilst speeding up teacher marking. Feel free to use or discount these codes but I can say they have sped up my marking significantly as they are based on the common feedback my department addressed that they were writing time and again.

At AS I think it is important to outline that we teach content in the following order:
COMPONENT 1:

-‘Tide’ (ML, REP & AUD)
-‘Kiss of the Vampire’ (ML &REP)
-‘Wateraid’ (ML, REP & AUD)
‘Black Panther’ (INDUSTRY)
-‘Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation’ franchise (IND & AUD)
-‘Daily Mirror’ (All of RAIL)
-‘Dream’ (ML &REP)
-‘LNWH’ (IND & AUD)

COMPONENT 2:

-‘Life on Mars’ (All of RAIL)
-‘Vogue’ (All of RAIL)
-Zoella’ (All of RAIL)

**IMPORTANT: Some task require the AS EDUQAS course guide, revision guide or Mark Dixon’s Media Theory for A Level: The Essential Revision Guide.
**
NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is providing Media Studies as an AS/A2 . Moreover, each lesson has a task whereby students RAG (Red, Amber, Green) what they have learnt in the lesson against an Examiner checklist (Differentiation, peer assessment).

If you liked this resource and found it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you could feedback or rate my resource as I am constantly trying to adapt and refine my resources to improve the learning of my students. Many thanks.
