This self-study resource develops practical beginner Russian through a four-stage learning sequence:

WORD → PHRASE → BUILD → RECALL

Learners first retrieve essential vocabulary, then practise useful phrases, construct sentences from familiar Russian, and finally respond to everyday situations without Russian hints. Support is intentionally reduced as the resource progresses.

Learning objectives

Learners practise retrieving beginner Russian vocabulary and phrases, constructing short controlled sentences, and producing useful Russian responses from familiar everyday contexts.

The resource uses Cyrillic as the primary target script. Transliteration provides temporary support and is progressively reduced, while learner stress marks support pronunciation awareness.

The resource contains 120 cards across seven modules, comprising:

Teaching and study uses

The cards are designed primarily for adult independent study and short, repeatable retrieval-practice sessions. They may also be used as supplementary Russian-language practice material where the learning level and content are appropriate.
