Pupils will explore the historical events behind Bonfire Night, learning about the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and the people involved, including Guy Fawkes. They will discover the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament, why it failed and how the events became associated with the annual celebration on 5 November.
Pupils will investigate how Bonfire Night is celebrated in different parts of the UK and explore how local communities organise events. They will learn about public fireworks displays, bonfires, fairground rides, food stalls and other traditions associated with autumn celebrations.
