BTEC Dance – Introductory Scheme of Work

This ready-to-use student booklet is designed to introduce the BTEC Level 1 / Level 2 Tech Award in Performing Arts (Dance) to Year 10 students. It clearly explains the course structure, assessment components and expectations in a student-friendly way, while building confidence in both practical dance skills and written reflection from the very first lessons.

The resource is ideal for schools with limited or no internet access, as all activities are teacher-led, discussion-based or practical.

The booklet includes a clear explanation of Components BPD01, BPD02 and BPD03, a student-friendly assessment overview, and a key word glossary with definitions. It contains a fully planned four-lesson introductory scheme of work with structured Do Now tasks, two main activities per lesson and end-of-lesson plenaries. There is a strong balance of practical dance, written tasks and reflective activities, with exemplar answers included throughout to support lower-ability learners. Lesson 1 focuses on what BTEC Dance is and how students are assessed. Lesson 2 explores professional dance work without the use of the internet. Lesson 3 develops technique, rehearsal skills and reflective writing. Lesson 4 introduces choreography and responding to a stimulus in preparation for Component 3.

Each lesson follows a consistent structure, beginning with a Do Now activity, followed by two thirty-minute tasks and a final plenary or key words activity.
