I used this in reception and year 1 as well as with SEN children in year 2. It is practical and involves very little recording. It involves using concrete objects to take away. The focus is understanding and practicing subtraction using pairs to make 10. It can be extended to see the relationship between add and subtract. It can also begin to link concrete toward pictorial maths by using them with pictures of the amounts as a next step.
