This 26-slide PowerPoint presentation is designed to teach, engage, and please the eye. It has been developed carefully to accompany the following chapter in C.S. Lewis’ book, Mere Christianity: “The Shocking Alternative.” This is the third chapter in Book 2 of Mere Christianity (“Book” is really a section in Mere Christianity).
In this chapter, Lewis argues that the possibility and existence of evil was inescapable if you want a world where people can make real choices, including the choice for or against God. God did not want mere “automata.” In the previous chapter, Lewis argued that Christianity is superior to Dualism because of how it handles the existence of evil, but in this chapter, he is going to take time to discuss how evil came about in the first place, why God allowed it, and what God has done in response to the current state affairs.
The presentation has been designed with the teacher in mind. The flow of ideas is logical, and will help teachers walk through the chapter in an easy, efficient, and engaging manner. Also, significant effort was spent to give the student a bird’s-eye view of what Lewis is attempting to accomplish so that the student understands what Lewis is doing rather than only appreciating some of his individual statements.
