Why this resource?
This lesson explores how ionic compounds can be visualised and described as giant structures, the various representations they are given and the limitations of the models, in addition to deriving empirical formulae - a slight deviation to the specification that prepares students for A Level but, more importantly, serves to explain why the formula of an ionic compound does not give the exact number of each ion present.
This lesson follows on from C2 L3: Ionic Bonding.
