In 2018, an AI-generated portrait sold at Christie’s auction house for $432,500 — the first time a machine-made artwork ever reached a major auction block.

But the story got messier: the code came from a high school student whose work was used without permission. The AI itself was trained on thousands of paintings, also without asking. This lesson takes that moment a breakthrough that raised as many questions as it answered and turns it into genuine philosophical enquiry.

Students explore what creativity actually is when a machine learns patterns and generates something new. They grapple with ownership: if AI made it, a programmer built it, and an artist trained it, who owns the result? They wrestle with fairness and ethics in an age where machines learn from human work. They ask whether art needs intention, feeling, or understanding to be real or whether beauty alone is enough. It is a lesson about AI, art, and what it means to create.

P4C Newsroom gives educators the tools to provide something different. We take the stories that are in the news right now, give them the real facts, and create space for genuine debate where they construct their own opinions on what matters. We have no political agenda. Just balanced information and structured discussion that builds thinking skills they actually need.

Educators get complete, ready-to-teach lesson packs. Students get debates in a safe, controlled, constructed environment where they can construct their own opinions on contemporary issues and their reasoning is what counts. Parents see their children becoming thoughtful about the world and confident in their own voice. Every lesson builds critical thinking and oratorial skills that schools need, with natural alignment to Theory of Knowledge. Over two thousand students engage with P4C Newsroom every week. There is nothing quite like it.
