This pack covers Edexcel specification points 5.4 and 5.5 a-e: the four types of pathogen and the five named infections - cholera, tuberculosis, chalara ash dieback, malaria and HIV. Students learn each disease’s pathogen type and effect exactly as the specification words them. They also learn how HIV leads to AIDS, and how the signs of a disease help to identify its cause.
The Topic Mastery Sheet compares the structure of bacteria, viruses, fungi and protists and how each causes harm. It includes a single disease reference table built on specification wording, extra examples (stomach ulcers and Ebola), and a clear account of HIV, white blood cells and secondary infection. A short history section shows correlation and causation in the cholera story. Six common errors are corrected, and the Grade 8-9 stretch section explains why HIV is so difficult for the immune system to defeat.
The Student Exam Practice Sheet (16 marks) has five questions. They progress from State and multiple-choice recall, through a table-completion task and a Describe question, to two Higher-tier items, including a 6-mark Explain question marked by levels. The answer key is checked against the Pearson Edexcel CB5 assessment mark scheme where equivalent items exist. It gives full indicative content and notes on what examiners accept.
Use it as a projected revision lesson, a recall-and-retrieval homework, a pre-mock check or an intervention pack. The PDF and editable Word versions are both included.
