This pack covers Edexcel specification point 5.6 a-d: how cholera (water), tuberculosis (airborne), chalara ash dieback (airborne) and malaria (animal vectors) are spread, and how that spread can be reduced or prevented. Students learn to name the route for each pathogen and, more importantly, to explain how each control method breaks that route. This is the step most often missing from exam answers.
The Topic Mastery Sheet sets out all the main transmission routes with examples. It gives each spec disease a card covering how it spreads and how that spread is controlled, and includes a “method + so that…” table that turns stated methods into explained ones. It also explains the hand-washing yeast practical. Six common errors are corrected, and the Grade 8-9 stretch section examines why vector-borne diseases such as malaria are so hard to control, including insecticide resistance.
The Student Exam Practice Sheet (19 marks) has five questions. They escalate from a matching task and a State item, through Describe and Explain questions, to a 6-mark Higher-tier Compare-and-Explain question marked by levels. The answer key gives tick-point marking, linked-explanation rules, full indicative content and examiner notes. The matching item is checked against the Pearson Edexcel CB5 assessment mark scheme.
Project the mastery sheet for a complete revision lesson, set the questions as homework or a starter-plus-plenary pair, or use the pack for intervention and independent study. Editable Word versions are included.
