This matching and labeling assignment requires students to match 16 descriptions to 16 given terms, then use a word bank to fill in 14 empty boxes that completes a flow chart diagram on the major stages and molecules involved in cellular respiration. There are two formats for this resource. Each includes a 2 page (front and back) student worksheet, and a 2 page answer key. The PDF download comes ready to print. You will also get access to your own copy of an editable Google Doc version (see Digital Document Access File in the Resources). The Google Doc version will allow you to customize terms and content for your students.

This is a great activity to help students unify the major ideas and terms covered in Cellular Respiration. The flow chart depicts the series of stages (Glycolysis, Krebs cycle, Electron Transport, and Fermentation) and major molecules (glucose, CO2, pyruvate, NADH, FADH2, H2O, O2, lactate/ethanol, and ATP) involved in the movement of carbon and transfer of energy during aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration.

Best used as:

  • a learning activity for students to complete with a supplied resource
  • a small group challenge/teamwork assignment
  • a review for vocabulary and/or major stages, and energy flow
  • an assessment (open or closed-note)

Very adaptable and involves using a number of different processing skills!
