CHALLENGE YOURSELF YEAR 2 - A SET OF GRADUATED MIXED ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION CHALLENGES

The pack consists of 20 mixed addition and subtraction challenge worksheets, with graduated difficulty. The worksheets are in line with the NC requirements for Year 2.

Challenges 1 and 2 deal with number bonds to ten, Challenges 3 and 4 deal with number bonds to 20, and so on, until the final Challenges 19 and 20, which deal with number bonds to 100. Each challenge consists of 15 questions, including 3 missing number sums at the end.

These activities could be done as timed challenges (5 minutes, 3 minutes etc. per challenge), or with a competitive edge - Who can finish a challenge in the least amount of time? Who can get the most sums correct over one / two / three etc. challenges?

The challenges can be done on a weekly or daily basis and children can repeat challenges if they are struggling. They can be done individually or in pairs / groups…… It’s entirely up to each individual teacher to decide how they will work best for their class.

You can decide how many sums a child needs to get correct in one test before moving on to the next test, and maybe fill in and display the chart (included in pack) so children can see their own and each other’s progress and be motivated by this. The promise of a reward for everyone who completes all the challenges (or some of them – as applicable!) successfully, within a given time frame works wonders!
