Challenge pupils to solve changing-ratio problems involving fractional changes, successive operations and alternative scenarios with this complete, editable Year 10 Maths Higher PowerPoint. The print free format keeps teaching, questions and answers together for classroom projection. Pupils respond in exercise books or on mini whiteboards; the main activities need no photocopied worksheets.

The Higher pathway combines changes that require more than a single routine calculation. Pupils remove a fraction of one quantity, follow successive changes and use two alternative scenarios to determine unknown amounts. They form linked equations, check whole-number feasibility and prove statements about changing proportions.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
• One editable 70-slide PowerPoint.
• Six retrieval questions and answers, plus prerequisite checks and answers.
• Key vocabulary covering original ratios, unchanged quantities, replacement and ratio parts.
• Six I Do / We Do examples in three matched pairs, with space for teacher working.
• Worked solutions explaining the modelled methods.
• Twenty individual AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer.
• A 33-question whole-class practice page with a one-slide answer key.
• Developing, Secure, Greater Depth and one Super Challenge on one differentiated page.
• A consolidated differentiated answer page and a worked Super Challenge solution.
• Dedicated misconception checks with corrections and explanations.
• An original exam-style task with suggested marks and worked answers.
• Three final exit checks, each immediately followed by its answer.

A CHALLENGE THAT REWARDS REASONING
The Super Challenge reverses two successive replacements. From the ratios after each step, pupils determine the fraction replaced, recover the original ratio and find the smallest total that permits whole counters throughout. The worked solution explains why all three conclusions follow.

KEEP EVERYONE WORKING
The practice page groups questions under shared instructions, giving pupils substantial practice on one screen. The differentiated page provides different starting points while keeping the whole class active. A clear boundary separates the Super Challenge from the other tasks. Consolidated answers support efficient checking.

CHECK UNDERSTANDING THROUGHOUT
Prerequisite checks reveal gaps. Matched examples let you demonstrate a method before pupils attempt a different example with support. The AFL sequence is suitable for quick mini-whiteboard responses, allowing you to spot errors before independent practice. Misconception tasks distinguish successive changes from alternative scenarios and explain why replacement changes both counts. Pupils check each stage before forming the final equation.

READY TO ADAPT
Use the lesson for first teaching, consolidation or revision. Adapt the editable slides to your class.
