Christmas Crackers has been developed to give children opportunities to practise a range of maths skills in fun and engaging ways. As a package, it has been designed to support, in age-appropriate ways, the curriculum areas of number operations, properties of 2D shapes, positional language, patterns and sequences – and reasoning. The resource includes:
Opening Film:
A short introductory film which sets everything in context and outlines the overall challenge.
Christmas Crackers:
These are provided as PowerPoints - with audio, so make sure you’ve got the volume turned up. (If you don’t have audio, you will still be able to read all the instructions on screen).
There are five Power Points each with a different Cracker Challenge, with each one taking between 10 - 20 minutes. They’re very easy to use, and guide you through everything. But you’ll probably want to take a quick look at the ones for your class beforehand, just to familiarise yourself with them and to check the timings of the slides.
It is important that you complete the activities in order, from Number 1 -Number 5.
Christmas Creative Challenge
After you have completed all five Christmas Crackers, the children might also like to complete the Christmas Creative Challenge. There is a worksheet provided as a pdf. The instructions for each challenge can be found at the end of Cracker Challenge 5 Power Point.
