What’s different about Paper 1?
No calculator means algebraic fluency is everything. You need exact trig values (30°, 45°, 60°) in your head. You need derivatives and integrals memorised – the formula sheet gives you NONE of calculus. And “show that” questions require every step shown; skipping working loses marks even if the answer is right. This guide teaches all of it.
What’s inside:
Core exam strategy
5-step question process (read → identify → write formula → show working → check form)
Command words decoded: “hence” (must use previous part), “show that” (don’t work backwards), “sketch” (axes, intercepts, asymptotes)
Complete formula sheet – what’s given vs what’s NOT
Given: quadratic formula, binomial coefficients, AP/GP formulas, circle equations, trig identities
NOT given (must memorise): all calculus derivatives & integrals, arc length (s = rθ), sector area (A = ½r²θ), segment area, logarithm laws, exact trig values
Topic frequency analysis (14 topics)
Critical topics (9/14): Functions, Quadratics, Equations/Inequalities, Logarithms, Trigonometry, Series, Calculus, Straight-Line Graphs
Each topic broken down into: must-knows, key formulas, common exam traps
Worked examples with full solutions
Functions (composite, inverse, modulus graph)
Logarithms (laws, solving equations)
Trigonometry (equations, identity proofs)
Calculus (stationary points, tangents, area)
Series (binomial, geometric progression)
Plus:
High-value definitions (one-one, many-one, discriminant conditions, stationary points) – for “explain” and “state” questions
Common exam traps for EVERY topic (e.g., “f⁻¹(x) = 1/f(x)” – wrong; inverse is NOT reciprocal)
Predicted questions for 2028–2030 (connected rates of change, modulus inequalities, binomial with fractional constants)
Exact trigonometric values table
Differentiation vs integration quick reference
8-week revision plan (morning + afternoon + evening active recall sessions)
Grade boundary targets (A* = 68–80/80)

A small ask: If this guide helps you and your students, please take two minutes to leave a review. It helps other teachers find resources that actually work – and I read every single one. Thank you!
