I have written five climate change stories with accompanying story resources such as play scripts, songs and cross-curricular activities for Early Years and KS1.
I hope they help you to teach your children about this difficult subject in a fun way.
The stories are inspired by articles from the National Geographic magazines, ensuring that the information about climate change on which they are based is accurate and current.
The resources are designed to last for half a term.
The first story is called “Olav gets an ice idea!” This is a story about the melting ice in the Antarctic and the affects this is having on emperor penguins’ ability to breed.
The second story is called “A New Home.” This is a story about deforestation in Uganda in Africa and the affects this is having on chimpanzees who live in the forests there.
The third story is called “The Blue Bluefin.” This is a story about overfishing in the South Pacific seas and the affects this is having on bluefin tuna fish and other sea creatures living there.
The fourth story is called “What’s the matter Mr. Bear?” This is a story about the melting ice in the Arctic and the affects this is having on polar bears’ ability to hunt for food.
The fifth story is called “Toms and Bloomers save the day.” This is a story about fertilizer pollution in the five Great Lakes in Canada and the affects this is having on the lakes’ ecosystems and biodiversity.
The stories also deal with more general themes such as friendship, love, fear, tolerance and compromise.
These resources are ideal for curious young minds that love a good story and want to learn about their changing world.
Hope you enjoy using these resources!
