Lesson 10-12: This DOUBLE lesson resource continues a unit of 18 lessons on ‘The Sun’ and ‘The Guardian’ newspapers and their coverage of Brexit (NEW 2021 ONWARDS SET TEXTS). This lesson focuses on ‘THE SUN’ and their readership and covers:

-Old v New Media
-The creation of a revision resource throughout tasks that embed knowledge on theory and facts surrounding ‘The Sun’.
-‘The Sun’ audience breakdown.
-A guided tour of ‘The Sun’ and key information about the institution and how it engages the readership.
-TASK 2: The issue with studying a webpage is that it changes numerous times throughout the day, so we just need to know the general codes and conventions. Using today’s homepage, establish how audiences are attracted, using as many of the terms on the next page as possible.
-Key web page terminology.
-Citizen journalism.
-Participatory media.
-Application of Uses and Gratifications (Named Theorists).
-Application of Pick and Mix theory.
-Application of AOGRE.
-Convergence theory. pro’s and con’s of adopting New media.

EXPLORING THE 2019 SET OF AUD QUESTIONS:

(b) Identify one audience for The Sun website. [1]

In Question 4(d), you will be rewarded for drawing together knowledge and understanding from across your full course of study, including different areas of the theoretical framework and media contexts.

IMPORTANT: This resource includes notes at the bottom of select power point slides to aid teachers, links, printable resource slides and differentiated slides at the end of the power point with all audience theories covered broken down.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW. Each lesson is laid out as I teach my own class but I have added notes at the bottom of some of the slides e.g. on the Media Teaser, to aide teachers. All lessons are developed with differentiation, assessment/challenge as well as engagement entrenched heavily within all my resources. Moreover, constant reference is made throughout to the selected Examiner Media.
