LESSON 14-15 IN THE SERIES. This double- lesson resource is part of a tailored unit to help students understand the differences between writing for Component 1 and 2. I have designed the ‘HUMANS’ and ‘The RETURNED’ lessons separately so as to focus on all of RAIL (Representation, Audience, Industry and Language (Media) respectively. ‘THE RETURNED’ lessons will follow exactly the same format as the ‘HUMANS’’ series of lessons and will include 4 Power Points, one on each of the RAIL terms. There will also be a lesson on Narrative and Post-Modernism where both forms will be combined into one lesson due the difficulty students often have with such concepts. It is my intention to teach my students the RAIL term for ‘HUMANS’ and then ‘THE RETURNED’ to aid their compare and contrasting. This double lesson covers:
-STARTER: QUI EST QUI? A recall task matching characters with their names.
-A theorist focused task whereby students must apply Hall, hooks and Van Zoonen to ‘The Returned’. Each theorists has a differentiated help slide with a blank slide on the back to support learnt in their application of the theories.
-A single-slide Representational slide witj key terms/ concepts for students to incorporate for higher marks/ a Band,
With the above in mind, an application of the theories to that of two scenes in ‘The Returned’ against two separate questions.
-How is the Horror genre/ Zombie genre indicated via selection and combination in this scene? (Victor at the Bus Stop)
-With an application of Van Zoonen and hooks, explore how gender is represented in this scene? (The underpass scene)
NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at A-Level, as a Two- Year Course.
