Teach constructing loci with this print-free Year 10 maths lesson. The 102-slide editable PowerPoint combines animated construction demonstrations, illustrated vocabulary, matched modelling, assessment for learning and differentiated practice with worked answers.

Pupils construct and describe loci defined by distance conditions. They work with circles, perpendicular bisectors, parallel lines and angle bisectors, then combine conditions to identify common points or shade regions. Explicit teaching distinguishes exactly, at most, at least and more than, including whether boundaries belong to the solution.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
• 102 editable PowerPoint slides with questions and answers.
• Six grouped retrieval questions and six grouped prerequisite questions, each with answers.
• Six illustrated vocabulary slides explaining the geometric language.
• Two 3 × 2 I Do–We Do grids covering points, full lines and finite segments.
• Animated demonstrations for fixed distance, equal distances and combined circle conditions.
• Worked line-locus constructions, regions and guided practice.
• Full lines distinguished from finite segments with semicircular ends.
• 20 individual AFL questions, each immediately followed by its answer.
• 16 minimally different questions in four blocks, with illustrated answers.
• A compact whole-class page showing Developing, Secure, Greater Depth and a distinct Super Challenge together.
• Worked solutions and an exit check with matching answers.

MODELLING AND LANGUAGE
Matched models cover circles, perpendicular bisectors, combined conditions, parallel lines and running-track loci around finite segments. Definitions cover locus and loci, radius, circumference, equidistant, midpoint, region, boundary, intersection, perpendicular distance, parallel lines, angle bisectors, arcs and the circumcentre. Diagrams explain the geometric terms.

MINIMALLY DIFFERENT PRACTICE
One block keeps the centre and radius fixed while changing the distance words. Another explores distances from a straight line and the regions between parallel boundaries. A third block keeps both radii fixed while changing the distance between the centres, producing two, one or no common points. A fourth block develops finite-segment loci.

DIFFERENTIATED PRACTICE
Developing consolidates circles, strips and touching circles. Secure combines two circle conditions, a disc with a nearer-to region, and a strip with the exterior of a circle. Greater Depth asks pupils to classify circle intersections and justify the perpendicular-bisector property. The Super Challenge connects equal-radius circle intersections with Pythagoras to calculate the distance between the two solution points.

PRINT-FREE CLASSROOM USE
Pupils construct diagrams and record their reasoning in exercise books. They need compasses, a ruler, a straightedge and a pencil. Play the presentation in PowerPoint Slide Show mode to view the animated demonstrations.
