Teach converting metric units with a complete, editable Year 7 Core PowerPoint lesson designed for confident whole-class delivery.
The lesson develops secure use of the essential metric relationships: kilometres and metres, metres and centimetres, centimetres and millimetres, kilograms and grams, and litres and millilitres. Pupils connect conversion to place value and powers of ten, choose the correct operation, compare measurements by converting to a common unit, complete missing-value conversions and apply the method in context.
The I Do-We Do-You Do structure includes three matched modelling pairs shown through consistent Plan, Build and Complete reveal states. Each model keeps the matched pupil question visible and preserves a large teacher-modelling canvas.
Assessment and practice include:
- a six-question retrieval starter with answers;
- a clear metric conversion map and vocabulary teaching;
- 12 mini-whiteboard AFL questions, each followed immediately by its answer;
- 24 purposeful, minimally different conversion questions at projection-readable size;
- consolidated practice answers;
- one three-column Developing, Secure and Greater Depth practice slide;
- a coherent Super Challenge requiring systematic proof;
- misconception diagnosis, problem solving, challenge and exam-style questions;
- a three-question exit check with answers.
All questions and answers have been mathematically checked. The lesson is standalone, print-free, fully editable and suitable for classroom projection, cover work, intervention or revision.
