This pack covers Edexcel specification points 2.8, 2.9 and 2.13: recalling and using acceleration = change in velocity ÷ time taken, using v² - u² = 2 × a × x, recalling that the acceleration in free fall is 10 m/s², and estimating the size of everyday accelerations.

The Topic Mastery Sheet explains acceleration and deceleration with a worked example, shows how to rearrange v² - u² = 2ax for a car braking to a stop, and gives a table of estimated everyday accelerations compared with g. Exam tips cover units and signs, and the June 2024 examiners’ report comments on a braking calculation. A key vocabulary table gives the exact Edexcel terms, and six common errors are corrected. The Grade 8-9 stretch section explains why braking distance depends on the square of the speed.

The Student Exam Practice Sheet (22 marks) has six questions. They progress from multiple choice, State and Describe items through acceleration and deceleration calculations, two calculations adapted from the June 2024 paper (including a 4-mark answer to 2 significant figures) and a free-fall calculation with an Explain item, to estimating an everyday acceleration. Answers are checked against the official June 2024 Edexcel Combined Science 1PH mark scheme and the Pearson CP1 assessment wherever an equivalent item exists.

Project the mastery sheet for a ready-made revision lesson, set the practice sheet as homework or a timed check, or use the pack for intervention and independent study. PDF and editable Word versions are both included. Written for Edexcel GCSE Combined Science (1SC0); points that appear only in the separate GCSE Physics specification are not included.
