x2 sheets (x10 picture and x10 word cards), portrait orientation, pdf format.

What’s it for?
This phonics activity enables learners to sound out graphemes to read simple words (all containing the ‘e’ sound) and match them with the corresponding picture. This set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. It is ideal for individuals or groups to complete independently.

Who’s it for?
This resource is suitable for early years children, Year One pupils, and older learners who require focused phonics support and consolidation.

How to use it?
An adult needs to print and pre-cut the cards into rectangles (dotted lines guide where to cut).

The set of cards can be placed on a carpet/table top. Learners read each CVC word by sounding out the individual graphemes featured. They then match each word to its corresponding picture from the set. Phoneme ‘dots’ are included beneath every grapheme to guide learners on the number of sounds to say as they sound out the words.

Resource Details…
The words and pictures included feature phonemes and graphemes from Phase 2, plus the ‘w’ and ‘y’ sounds from Phase 3.

The ten CVC words in this set are:

• yes

Other sets (a, i, o, u) are also available, individually and as a set of x5. Each vowel set is printed in a different colour to prevent cards from becoming mixed up, making it easier to select the correct matching pair.

Suggestion
We recommend this resource is printed onto card stock/laminated. The durable card sets, whether used individually or combined with other vowel sets, are also excellent for playing popular games such as ‘Pairs’.
