Decimal places, Multiplying and dividing decimals - Edexcel Foundation

Hi,

This lesson is a dummies guide to working with decimals. This lesson is based around the basic understanding of decimal places. I have broken this lesson down into 3 stages; decimal places, multiplying and dividing decimals. There is a good range of differentiation and scaffolding which will cater towards middle to high ability students. I have used a range of AfL to check understanding and cover misconceptions. The last learning objective gives students the chance to work independently and use their prior or current knowledge to work out the questions stated. (The last task on the PPT is optional).

The main activities can be displayed on the board for the students to copy into their books as they show their working out. In addition to this, most slides have answers and worked solutions. After most activities I have attached a problem solving slide which is heavily worded.

I have attached two starters to this lesson so that basic skills can be addressed before the lesson starts. This lesson will take 2/3 hours for a middle/top ability group. Please read the above before purchasing.

- I can round to a given number of decimal places.
- I can solve questions by multiplying decimal numbers correctly.
- I can divide decimals by using the correct method.
