This highly engaging 12–15 hour Design & Technology project introduces students to 3D CAD, engineering design, and manufacturing through a structured, hands-on approach.
Students begin by creating accurately dimensioned 3D CAD drawings of a train using TinkerCAD, developing essential skills in scale, measurement, and technical drawing. They then apply their knowledge to design and manufacture a working vehicle construction kit, using wood, metal, and plastics alongside a range of tools and processes.
This popular KS3/KS4 D&T unit combines CAD modelling, practical making, STEM learning, and problem-solving, resulting in a highly motivating design-and-make project that consistently delivers strong student outcomes.
