This lesson is designed so that pupils can independently discover the circle theorems in Autograph. This can be downloaded for free at : https://completemaths.com/autograph

Pupils will need to save some Autograph files locally and use them to work through a booklet to help them make connections. There are 4 files that they will need to work through in Autograph to discover:

  • Angles in the Same Segment
  • Cyclic Quadrilaterals
  • Angles in a Semi Circle
  • Angles at the Centre

They then can test themselves and worksheets with answers are provided. There is also an extension option whereby pupils use Autograph to create their own circles and tangents in order to make connections with the remaining 2 circle theorems.

I used this for my observation lesson with a bottom set year 10 and it worked really well. They were able to **SEE **when angles and the property. It made an otherwise dull topic very visual. This could also be adapted for distance learning whereby you ask the pupils to download Autograph in advance. If that is not possible, you as the teacher can work through the Autograph files via Zoom/Google Meets and have a discussion about what is going on. Pupils can then fill in their observations in the booklet.
