This is a division lesson for pupils in Years 5 or 6. It could be done as a 'stand alone' lesson although when I did it my class had been working on our World War 2 topic. For this reason the questions are mainly linked to the topic.

The lesson focus is the use of short division HTU by U and pupils are encouraged to think about whether to express answers using a remainder or using a decimal.

More able pupils move on to look at dividing HTU by TU. I found that there was enough work in the lesson to last an hour but it would be easy to add some additional sums if you wanted.

There is also a 'thinking skills/reasoning' problem which my class found both challenging and rewarding.

Hope you find the lesson and resources useful - I include some simple notes in the PPT
