This is a two lesson resources that focuses on evaluating whether tourism has a positive or negative effect. This is based on a small case study of the Lake District.

Lesson 1: How does tourism have a negative effect?
-Locating the Lake District using UK locational skills
-Reading an extended article and picking out the economic, social and environmental effects
-Extending on each effect using BLT to explain why it is negative/ who for

Lesson 2: How does tourism have a positive effect?
-Exploring the potential positive economic, social and environmental effects of tourism (on the Lake District)
-Developing an understanding of ‘stake holders’ and how tourism affects people differently.

Both lessons contain extensive resources, differentiated materials, opportunities for formative assessment, and strong links to literacy (reading).
