Early Fractions Colouring Sheets (12 pages) is a resource designed to introduce EYFS and KS1 children to early fraction concepts through colouring and visual learning.
Each fraction is presented in both colour and black-and-white versions, allowing children to explore, copy, and then apply their understanding independently.
The resource begins with wholes (pages 1–2), helping children recognise a complete shape before moving on to parts.
Pages 3–4 introduce halves, followed by quarters on pages 5–6.
Children then progress to more detailed partitioning with six parts (pages 7–8), eighths (pages 9–10), and finally tenths, supporting a gradual and structured understanding of equal parts.
The colour pages provide a clear model, while the black-and-white versions encourage children to practise by colouring specific fractions, reinforcing key vocabulary and concepts.
Children can either colour the black and white sheets to match their colour counterparts or use their own colour designs.
This resource supports early maths skills including fractions, counting, matching, part-whole relationships, and fine motor development. It links to pattern, shape and colour.
The resource is ideal for whole-class teaching, small groups, or independent activities.
After completing the colouring sheets, children can:
• Cut out their circles
• Choose one (e.g. halves, quarters, tenths)
• Re-colour or design each section using their own colour rules (e.g. “2/8 blue, 3/8 red”)
• Stick the circle onto card and label it with the fraction
• Make into a class display
