Earth Day (2 lessons, PowerPoint + Resources)
Suitable for KS1

These 2 highly-engaging lessons will teach children about the origin of Earth Day; the 1969 Santa Barabara oil spill in an age-appropriate way. As well as how people celebrate Earth Day.

The resource includes:

  • a 28-slide PowerPoint that includes teaching prompts, images and discussion questions. The PowerPoint is visually appealing.
  • a 1584-word lesson plan that includes two lessons. The first lesson focuses on the oil spill, and the second lesson focuses on Earth Day in the present. There is a focus on inquiry-led learning by asking children to work collaboratively and creatively.
  • 9 resources that include everything you need to teach the lessons. Lesson 1 provides 2 options for activities- either an oil spill experiment, or the creation of a poster which is differentiated 4 ways. Lesson 2 includes 4 creative activities.
