The Returned Lesson 4-6= This TRIPLE lesson is part of a tailored unit to help students understand the differences between writing for Component 1 and 2. I have designed the ‘Humans’ and ‘The Returned’ as follows:

-Respective Media Language lessons on ‘Humans’ and a separate one on ‘The Returned’.
-A combined lesson on Post-Modernism whereby ‘Humans’ and ‘The Returned’ are both considered at once.
-Respective Representation lessons on ‘Humans’ and a separate one on ‘The Returned’.
-An Audience and Industry combined lesson on ‘Humans’
-An Audience and Industry combined lesson on ‘The Returned’

The above format is based on feedback from my students as to how they found it easier to digest the content and focus on specific texts holistically. This lesson covers:

-Viewing and analysis of Episode 1.
-An overview of the series.
-Genre and sub-genre conventions, iconography and motifs.
-The sub-version of the Zombie genre
-An audio/visual summary everything that happens in Season 1 of ‘The Returned’.
-Themes within ‘The Returned’ with Teacher visual examples e.g. Gothic Literature and symbolism in ‘The Returned’
-RESISTS
-Tropes and Stock Characters
-Intertextuality
-Narrative
-Poetic Realism
-An audio/ visual exploration of themes with the cast of ‘The Returned’
-Analysis of the opening credits of ‘The Returned’
-Group Discovery learning and feedback task based on divided up questions form the Teachers notes.

-A Mastery sheet on the following question:

NOTE: All task sheets, differentiated resource and audio/visual stimuli are included within the lesson/ Power Point.Help slides are also included at the end of the Power Point as well as a Mastery sheet that can be set as additional H/W and/or revision.
