This lesson describes the function of some of the 14 electrical circuit components that the students must know for topic P2. The PowerPoint and accompanying resource have been designed to cover point 2.1.1 & 2.1.3 of the AQA GCSE Physics and Combined Science specifications, and is specifically written for those students who will take the foundation tier.
The lesson focuses on the ammeter, voltmeter and the resistor. Students will learn that the ammeter must be set up in series whilst the voltmeter must be set up in parallel. They will understand the meaning of resistance and learn about the relationship between resistance and the size of current flow. Exam-style questions, with answers embedded into the PowerPoint, are used to allow students to check their understanding.
As described above, this lesson has been written for foundation tier students and is expected to be covered in a lesson ranging between 45 minutes and an hour. It is the 2nd lesson in a series of 12 lessons which have been planned to cover the main content of topic P2.
